Recent Design Project

by Marko on Jul.14, 2009, under Design, Personal

Here’s a little update on a design project I just completed. Recently, my friend Cory asked me to create a design for a website he was developing. It’s for a Auction Centre in Saskatchewan called Country Boy and they auction off everything from classic cars to typewriters. Now, Cory is an excellent developer and one of the best programmers I know, so I was really excited when he asked me to design the website. He gave me a little doodle of what he wanted and a couple days later I sent him my mock up. I just hope the client likes it as much as he did. He made a few changes, so the final product won’t look exactly as it does below. However, once the website is completed, you can view the final, functioning version at http://www.countryboyautosales.ca

Red Mile Creamery & Desserts

by Marko on May.19, 2009, under Design, Personal

Hey all, I’m sorry I haven’t been posting as regularly as I would have liked to and I’ve always defended myself on the basis that I’ve been working hard on design projects. Well I’m glad to say that I’ve managed to complete one of those projects. It’s a website for a dessert cafe out in Calgary, Alberta. It’s called Red Mile Creamery & Desserts. They have over 60 flavours of ice cream, tons of tasty desserts and even Turkish coffee. It was hard not to get hungry staring at all the tasty treats while I worked on this site. But it feels good to be see it go live tonight and I’m pretty happy with the way everything came out. I still need to setup the mailing list, but I’m not too worried about that. Any feedback on the site would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

New Wallpapers!

by Marko on May.14, 2009, under Design

New Wallpapers? That’s right, I finally spent some time adding new content to my own website. What’s even more impressive is that this is the second post I’m making today. Slavica will be proud of me.

The first of the two wallpapers is ‘Blackcomb Glacier’. The photo was taken in February of 2008, while I was on vacation in Whistler, BC. It’s actually a series of 3 photos which were joined together to make a beautiful panorama. I had a difficult time trying to make the image look right for all resolutions, so I trimmed it down for most of them. Unless you’re using dual monitors, you won’t get to experience the full impact of this image, and even then it’s still slightly trimmed down. All the resolutions are available on my website in a nice little drop down menu. I even included the full size panorama, which is a whopping 5968 x 1823 pixels and pushing close to 10mb in size. All you quality freaks should enjoy that.

The second wallpaper is entitled ‘Down Under’. This photo was taken recently by a good friend of mine who’s currently on vacation in Australia. Jord, you took an amazing photo man, thanks for letting me use it. I think the location is Byron Bay, but I could be wrong. The photo itself was really interesting, I didn’t want to over retouch it. What I did do was clean it up a bit, bring some of the buildings in the background into focus, modify the sky and lighting, and just generally make the entire image sharper. It’s also available for download on my website at a wide variety of resolutions.

Down Under

That’s all for now, I hope you enjoy these wallpapers. I’ve also been working hard on two websites that I should be completing soon. I’ll most likely post an update about that sometime soon. You’ll just have to stay tuned for more hotness.

70+ Beautiful Album Covers

by Marko on Apr.28, 2009, under Design, Gallery

When purchasing an album, it’s not always about the music. Some bands go to great lengths to provide their fans with unique album designs and album art. The purpose of an album cover could be to grab your attention, make a statement or show a deeper connection the music and lyrics. I’ve gone through my collection of music and pulled out just a few of the many great designs that are featured on the cover of each album. Some of them feature stunning photography, unique logo designs, beautiful illustrations, as well as excellent use of typography and colour. It’s by no means a complete list, but nonetheless, I do hope you enjoy this design showcase. Depending on the response I get from it, I’ll most likely post some more in the future. Project Update

by Marko on Mar.25, 2009, under Design, Personal

I haven’t exactly done much since last week regarding design projects. Part of it was due to some nasty viruses and malware that were starting to consume my computer and my life. I’m pretty sure I got most of them trying to stream some live sports over the weekend. It took me a few days and a ridiculous amount of spyware/adware removal tools to finally get rid of them. I don’t have time to backup all my programs and music just yet, but I know that formatting would be the best way to make sure all that crap is gone. Either way, I was able to sit down and get some work done today. Here is another completed template for Veck Web Services.

Current Project

by Marko on Mar.20, 2009, under Design

This is just a quick update to share what I’m currently working on. My friend Cory over at Veck Web Services is working on his hosting site. He asked me to create a series of templates to be paired with various hosting packages so that customers can get hosting and a design all at one place. I’m not exactly sure how many of them I’m planning on making, but since they don’t take as long to create as custom web designs, I should be able to provide a wide variety of templates for this project. This is the first of several templates I plan to make and they can easily be modified to accommodate a specific client.

Also, I may be getting a little help around here in the near future. My friend Josh from the University of Windsor might be able to contribute some of his writings on a weekly basis. This would be another great and really interesting addition to the blog. I really hope he decides to do it. That’s all for now, have a great weekend.
