Monsters of Folk – Temazcal
by Marko on Nov.12, 2009, under Song of the Week
This week’s song is Temazcal by Monsters of Folk from their self titled album which was released just a over a month ago. The band consists of Jim James from My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes and M. Ward. They’re on tour right now and just did a show in Toronto a couple of weeks ago. I wasn’t able to get tickets, but I would have loved to go. However, I did end up going to see Dan Auerbach last weekend. What an amazing show, just wow. I got chills when he sang “Goin’ Home”. If you ever get a chance to see Dan live, I would highly recommend you do.
I’m going to make a conscious effort to update the song of the week every Thursday as I originally planned. This song goes out to Bobbi. Enjoy!
Monsters of Folk – Temazcal (Lyrics)
putting on my power, righteous as a rose
dynamite the mountain, now i’m walking up the road
love we made at gunpoint wasn’t love at all
the dancing in the valley, the moons the mirrored ball
blew open my mind, now it’s an empty room
swinging in the hammock, dogs are walking ‘cross the roof
i watch you braid your hair, you’re from another time
when the earth wasn’t so angry
and god was on our side
searching west and east
and all points in-between
underneath the lines of thought
you’re there and then you’re not
the mayans stole tomorrow, hid it underground
we come with heavy magnets but it still hasn’t been found
i’m sweating out my secrets in temazcal
they’re screaming in the calle that the stars about to fall
looking through the trees
cities and the seas
things we’ve seen
ovnis on the lawn
they’re there and then they’re gone
there and then they’re gone
searching west and east
all points in between
and underneath the hand of god
you’re there and then you’re not

thank you very much!! this was the perfect accompaniment to writing an essay, that did not want to be written. you just contributed to a better mark to a procrastinating masters student. well done!!
PS. I saw “Bright Eyes” in Saskatoon three years ago, very haunting indeed

Well, for some reason I couldn’t comment on your latest, it wouldn’t let me, but as I logged on to get my Thursday fix… there was no song waiting for me. Here I am again, writing yet another paper and a final mind you, and nothing!
So to switch it around, and give you a break, I thought I would give you a Thursday song of the week instead. Hope you like it…

Hey! Sorry to disappoint you like that, but I was planning to get to it at some point… I swear =P
Actually I had a song that I wanted to post today but I couldn’t find it anywhere online, so I’ll have to upload it to youtube myself.
Thanks for the song, I really like it. I’ve never heard of these guys before, but I’ll definitely have to check them out now. I read some of the comments on the page and apparently they opened for black keys, one of my favourite bands… pretty kool stuff. Good luck with your paper, I’ll have a new song for you soon enough, I don’t take days off!
